Activities

The Museum Ladin Ćiastel de Tor and the Museum Ladin Ursus ladinicus organize cultural activities both inside the exhibition areas and outdoors.
(Ladin, German and Italian are the only languages used during the activities).

Young & Museum

Jugendliche für die museale Welt begeistern:
Das ist das Ziel des Themenjahres 2015 "Young & Museum", das die Abteilung Museen in gemeinsamer Trägerschaft mit dem Museumsverband Südtirol gestaltet.

Das Projekt bindet die ganze Museenlandschaft in Südtirol ein.

Über das gesamte Jahr verteilt organisieren die einzelnen Museen, Sammlungen und Ausstellungsorte Initiativen und Projekte speziell für Jugendliche zwischen 14 und 19 Jahren, aber auch gemeinsame, museenübergreifende Aktionen stehen auf dem Programm.

Tour of the Conturines Cave with guides from the Natural Park Department

From the mountain hut (1,726 m), you will head towards the Gran Fanes hut along path number 11. After a walk of around four hours across scree, you will reach the Conturines Cave (2,800 m). The Ursus ladinicus cavern was discovered in 1987. It was filled with the bones of cave bears, which were completely herbivorous and lived around 50,000 years ago during one of the warmer phases of the last ice age.

A palaeontologist will accompany you along the Bulla geological trail, where you can see the Permian-Triassic boundary, which marks a point 252 million years ago that saw the greatest mass extinction of all time. The geological phenomena that led to the formation of the Dolomites will also be explained.

An expert will introduce you to the mysterious world of the cave bears. You will find out all about the geology of the Dolomites, the ice ages and above all the distinctive features of Ursus ladinicus, which was discovered in 1987 in the Conturines Cave. The visit is also good preparation for a trip to the cave.

A morning for families with children aged 5 to 10

Guided tour of the Mill Valley in Longiarü

A day of Ladin culture and nature with the following programme:

Morning: Visit to the Museum Ladin Ćiastel de Tor.

Afternoon: Meet in the square outside Longiarù church for a 90 minute guided tour of the Mill Valley. There are eight mills to see, including one with tall barley crushers and one known as the “cable car”, which actually powers a sawmill.

It is also interesting to take a look at the “ćialćiara”, a kiln that was used to make lime in the past.

Guided tour of the Puez-Geisler natural park in Val Badia

Morning: A palaeontologist will take you on a journey through the history of the earth and the fascinating Dolomites, analysing typical rocks and fossils from the area in the Museum Ladin Ćiastel de Tor.

Afternoon: A guided tour along the Sasso Putia geological trail, where you can see some of the most important geological formations in the Dolomites. In association with the Natural Parks Department.
